Beta terms

The terms you accept when you join the Pixl Playroom beta.

Last updated 1 October 2026

Draft. This page is being prepared for launch and is not yet in effect. Words in [brackets] are still to be filled in.

These terms are between you and [Company legal name] (“PIXL Foundation”, “we”, “us”), and cover the Pixl Playroom beta: the test versions of Pixl Playroom we offer before version 1.0 (the “Beta”). You accept them when you join the Beta on playroom.pixlfoundation.com/beta. Our Licence agreement also applies to the Beta, except where these terms say otherwise.

1. What the Beta is

The Beta is free. Joining it gives your PIXL account beta access: you may use the Beta, with every feature, on up to three (3) devices at a time, signed in with that account. You can free a device on your account page and use another.

The Beta is pre-release software. It may have bugs, change or remove features, or behave differently from version 1.0. Keep backups of your photos. The Beta never changes your original files, but it may lose edits it hasn’t saved.

2. How long it lasts

The Beta ends when version 1.0 is released, or earlier if we end it. We may also close it to new testers or limit how many can join. When it ends:

  • beta versions stop working, and the app offers the update to 1.0;
  • your account gets the normal 14-day trial of version 1.0, like anyone’s;
  • your account gets a one-time discount code for Pixl Playroom, shown on your account page and sent by email, which you must use within 90 days of the 1.0 release. [The discount amount is still to be decided.]

Beta access doesn’t include a licence for version 1.0.

3. Your feedback

You don’t have to send feedback. If you do, by email or through Help → Report a Problem in the app, we may use it to improve our products, without owing you anything for it. Don’t send us anything you don’t want us to use.

The Beta is open: there’s nothing confidential about it, and you may talk about it and share screenshots.

4. What we collect

Joining the Beta and using it signed in means your PIXL account holds:

  • your email address, and your name if you give one;
  • that you accepted these terms, and when;
  • the devices you use the Beta on: a name for each (such as “Studio (macOS)”), the operating system, the app version, when it was last seen, and a one-way hash of the computer’s identifier (we never receive the identifier itself);
  • if you agree to product news, that you did.

The app checks your beta access with our server when it starts and about once a day. Crash and problem reports are sent only as our Privacy policy describes. You can delete your account, and with it this data, on your account page.

5. No warranty

The Beta is provided “as is” and “as available”, without any warranty, to the fullest extent the law allows. Section 9 and section 10 of the Licence agreement apply to the Beta, except that, the Beta being free, our total liability for it is limited to [the amount the law allows us to limit it to].

6. Changes

We may change these terms for later beta versions. If we do, the app or the beta page will ask you to accept the new terms before you can go on using the Beta.
